We start with a great
idea. Then we put it
on paper just as you
would if you were
building a home.

Monster Nova

Monster Nova

This Customer came to us with the request that we design and build a crazy 66 Nova. Mr Customer already had an all aluminum 540 ci Donavan that dynoed at arround 800Hp.  He mentioned that another shop had recomended us to do the build and wanted our full input and design to provide him with the best car possible.

The idea was to put an Art Morrison max G chassis under the car utilizing Corvette C6 front suspension and a triangulated 4 link rear. The biggest concern was head room, Mr Customer was very tall and the max g is a bit restrictive in this department, Our head fabricator Gary set about devising a good way to both fit the driver as well as make the chassis as stiff as possible. the final idea was to build a back bone style chassis. This way you acheive a very low profile floor and a very functional floor and tunnel.

The fact that this was going to be such an extensive build with so many modifications to make it both functional and radical, yet keeping the original feel of the car. Mr. Customer wanted all the original trim on the outside and nothing original on the inside. some of the custom fabricated items include.

  • Art Morrison Max G chassis with round tube back bone , this eliminates any roll cage yet provides a very strong frame.
  • Custom built aluminum fuel tank with seperate sump for the pump to draw from.
  • Fire wall was moved back to accomidate the big block Chevy
  • The cowl vents were filled and smoothed and a removable panel cut in to facilitate removing the distributor with out removing the motor.
  • The dash was sectioned and lengthened to make the cockpit have correct proportions after the seats were moved back to accomidate the tall driver with the moved firewall.
  • The master cylinder is a work of Art, Gary designed a bell crank actuator that allowed the hydroboost unit and Wilwood master cylinder are now mounted inside the glovebox. the best  part about this is it does not protrude into the engine bay which provides more room as well as a clean look.
  • The heater, A/C box was then mounted in the trunk below the package tray. The cool part is that Gary utilized the 2x3 frame rails as the ducting for the A/C to move the cool air to the front of the car and the top tubes of the back bone to move the heat and defrost to the front of the car.
  • I guess you gotta put gas in this thing, but the wheel tubs blocked off the factory filler location, so Gary took a page from the GM design book from 1956 and made the tail light flip down with the help of a gas strut.
  • The wheel base had been streached a full 3 inches to provide better handling as well as adjust the proportions of the car slightly. moving the front wheels forward 1.5 and the rears back the same amount. this makes for alot more metal work but hey this is custom.
  • So many custom touches went into this car that you will not even see when it is finished. from 2" stainless headers that slip in and out with out moving the motor to the front mounted air filters and custom built Hogans intake designed to fit under the factory flat hood.
  • hood hinges that are build into the inner fender area and are barely visible when the hood is open.

We then moved the car into the body shop to put a nice coat of charcoal grey base clear paint that matched the wheels on the underside and then started on the very important task of getting this car as straight as possible. The car was going to be very impressive if we had had the opportunity to complete it.

under the dash

This shot shows how much stuff had to go under the dash including the Big stuff 3 ECU and brake booster and master

blah blah

This shot shows the intensive metal work and fabrication that was involved in fitting the 540ci BBC in the custom frame. Also the air intake is starting to be designed so the air will enter from the bottom side of the filter and an air box would be fabricated on the top side and mated to the throttle body.

the custom designed and built hood hinges can also be seen. its amazing that you can fit a BBC with a short tunnel ram fuel injected manifold under the stock flat hood, formed inner panels and wheel wells too.

blah blah

Mock up of the modified dash also you can see the master cylinder in the glove box

b

This view shows the extensive metal work in the trunk, the dual batteries are hidden under the floor as well as the cover panel on the right side that was going to house the stereo amplifier. the remaining hole is for the custom built fuel tank.

Gas struts actuate the trunk lid and you can see the heater box tucked into the corner of the trunk, the sub box for a single 10" sub was to mount in the center up to the package tray also.

bl

Well here you go, not too much left of the original car and the quarters still need to be changed, but this is about all that was good after the body was dipped.

Here you can see the begining of the frame install, the Body is solid mounted to our frame jig which is 12" x 3/8 I beam so no movement here. Makes for a straight square frame.

Here is the finished engine bay at this point the engine is installed perminantly as is the rad and power steering cooler

The body work on the cowl has been done you can see the cut out for distrubutor removal, there is a fabricated peice that slips onto the 2 studs and are retained by O rings.

Gary Built some very functional stainless merge collector headers for the Nova. the best part is they can be installed with out removing the motor or the starter even.

Here is a pic of the custom Fuel filler door that Gary came up with.

Bandit Trans Am

Bandit Trans Am

Well here comes 1978 all over again.

This could be one of the nastiest "Bandit "T/A's Arround. complete with an all aluminum 572 BBC and a TKO600 5 speed trans, the drive train is built to handle anything, a sheet metal 9" housing with 33 spline axles and 3.73 posi. The rear suspension is a prototype Speed Tech Performance torque arm with adjustable pan hard bar and coil over shocks. The wheels are limited production 19" Forgelines 9" wide fronts and 12" wide rears running Nitto Invo tires 275/30's and 345/30 rears. A full custom interior featuring custom Gauges intended to keep the original feel of the gold engine turned dash but with out all the tacky 78 feel. Custom stiched leather seats by Tracy from Recovery Room Interiors in Nebraska Arguabilly one of the best in the business,  Tracy also was responsible for the difficult task of leather wrapping the stock dash as there are no replacemements available for this car . Murray one of our local interior contractors handled wrapping the interior panels and carpet install.

This is car was introduced at the 2008 Sema Show in the Speed Tech Performance booth and there was a crowd arround the car for 4 days. The build plan was to keep the traditional feel of the Bandit with an updated drive train including brakes and suspension along with a nasty look and stance.

The following build photos show what was done to the car, the car started as a fairly clean Arizona car that had been acid dipped and delivered in boxes to us for the build. The customer already had a 572 and some other parts that dictated the direction of the build. Killer Customs job was to try to complete the car in a very short time frame. we ended up taking longer than anticipated but feel the outcome was well worth the wait.

First step. Mount the body and sub frame on our frame jig square and level the body so all measurements and alignment can be consistant and correct. Originally these cars were never put together very well, the gaps and panel alignment was ok at the best of time, by securing the car to the jig it ensures that it doesnt move arround during construction. the next step order the wheels and tires and begin to make them fit, Killer Customs always starts with the wheel package as it does two things allows no compromise on the stance and gives the most direction to the build. The wheels are the most important part of the car, second is the stance, everything after that is ment to compliment the foundation that has been established.

b

some interior shots. Tracy from Recovery Room Interiors in Nebraska did a beautiful job on the seats and dash, he had some very choice words to me about the difficulty in wrapping the dash, and this guy is one of the best!!

The Bandit was shot for a up comming feature in either Super Rod or Chevy Rumble magizine. stay tuned to the news stand.

Next mock up the engine / trans and begin to design the torque arm rear suspension. keepin in mind the huge 345 tires. this required mini tubbing the car and we also had to consider  the ride height that we wanted to acheive.

b

First real look with the car on the ground, prior to going for final body and paint work.

b

Smoothed out fire wall and relocated wiper motor location, the trans tunnel has also been modified to fit the scattersheild bel housing and trans. We built custom motor mounts to locate the motor in the best location considering both ground clearance and hood clearance, of which there is none.

b

Custom bent roll bar and fitment of the interior panels, with the mini tubs installed ( that is not actually where the panels go) just incase you were thinking that????

Past Projects

protouring

"Killer 69" as the car has become known, was built for a client who had some ideas on how he wanted his car it was to be Black with the white Z28 stripes and a nice repo interior, it came with a new fully built roller 383. after discusing the project and starting work on it the customers confidence in our ideas and style were enough for him to say "supprise me" and this is what he got. probably one of the top 69 Camaros out there today the complete package driveability, style, fit, finish. this car has placed in the top 3 at every show it has been taken to including the Seattle Roadster show.

The specs are:

383 roller motor with AFR heads and 150 hp Nitrous fogger. T56 speed Transmission, 9" rear end with triangulated 4 link suspension. the body mods are too many to list but some of the major ones include: split molded rear bumper with center mount fuel filler, smoother rear quarter gills replaced with front fender vents, smoothed drip rails, one off front and rear spoilers.

LSII

LSII

This 66 Nova was completed in 10 months and started as an old unfinished pro street car, we removed the cumbersome old roll cage and replaced the mustang II front suspension with Corvette C5 front and Morrison Triangulated 4 link Rear. Running a narrowed sheet metal 9" with 4:56 gears and the biggest tires one could buy M/T 29 x 18.5 x 20 Sportsman Radials.

We ordered a Turn Key Engines LSII that dynoed at 520 Hp and mated it to a Tremec T56. the dash was custom designed to update the gauge cluster as well as move it rearward the Recaro seats and custom sub enclosure fill out the interior in a black leather finish. The sound system consists of 2 1000 w Audison Amps and Alpine touch screen dvd/cd/ipod controler, all pounding through Focal speakers.

69 Camaro 427 and a 66 Impala 396

 69 Camaro 427 and a 66 Impala 396

These are a couple nice drivers that we did some wheel/ tire combos on and some suspension work. the camaro runs a blown 427 BBC and the Impala is a factory  396 4 speed car.

Pauls Wicked Camaro

Pauls Wicked Camaro

Killer Customs ended up doing some final touches on this car for Paul, Including stainless 3" tail pipes we also scaled the car and set up the suspension added sub frame connectors and fixed a few minor issues. The car is really nice with an EFI 572  and a TKO500, 9" rear and 20's all around. Some nice Carbon Interior touches also
